CE Requirements for RNs

Total Hours Required: 25 | Elective Hours: 21-22 | Renewal Cycle in Years: 2

Registered nurses' licenses are renewed every 2 years by March 31. All Michigan licensed nurses must complete 25 hours of board-approved continuing education, with at least two (2) hours in pain and symptom management, within the two years immediately preceding the expiration date of their license. Beginning 6/1/2022, and for every renewal thereafter, an applicant for license or registration renewal must have completed a minimum of one (1) hour of live/interactive implicit bias training for each year of the applicant's license or registration cycle (i.e., 2 hours total).

New nurses must complete a one-time training in identifying victims of human trafficking. This training on identifying victims of human trafficking does not count towards required CE unless the training also satisfies a Board’s requirements for CE/CPD/PDR. Effective 6/1/2022, new applicants for licensure or registration are required to have completed two (2) hours of live/interactive implicit bias training within the 5 years immediately preceding issuance of the license or registration.
