To manage pain effectively, it is essential to understand and sometimes reconsider basic concepts about pain and its treatment. This course will cover the epidemiology of pain, the components of a comprehensive pain assessment, the issues that arise from undertreated pain, the various methods for treating pain in palliative care, and the role of the palliative care team. This course aims to equip nurses with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective pain management in palliative care settings.


After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Recognize each component of the pain assessment.
  • Recall the different methods of pain relief used in palliative care.
  • Identify the role of the pain management team and the plan of care in pain management.
