CE Requirements for RNs

Total Hours Required: 20 | Elective Hours: 18 | Renewal Cycle in Years: 2

Beginning with the May 31, 2012 renewal, all registered nurses shall complete 20 hours of approved continuing education per 2 year license renewal cycle. All CE must be completed in the 24 months preceding expiration of the license.

Beginning January 1, 2020, all RNs shall complete a one (1) hour CE course in sexual harassment training each 2-year license renewal cycle, so that 1 of the 20 hours of required CE must be a sexual harassment prevention training course.

Beginning January 1, 2022, all RNs shall complete a one (1) hour CE course in Implicit Bias training each 2-year license renewal cycle, so that 1 of the 20 hours of required CE must be an Implicit Bias training course for Illinois.
