CE Requirements for RNs

Total Hours Required: 30 | Elective Hours: 29 | Renewal Cycle in Years: 2

The renewal deadline for New Jersey nurses with a RN license is May 31. RNs are assigned to either an even or odd year for renewal. Each licensee must complete a minimum of 30 hours of CE during the two-year period preceding renewal.

Organ and Tissue Donation, 1 Contact Hour: Every registered professional nurse shall have completed a one-hour, one-time required continuing education course that covers organ and tissue donation and recovery designed to address clinical aspects of the donation and recovery process.

Prescription Opioid Drugs, 1 Contact Hour: Every registered professional nurse must complete a one-hour continuing education course concerning prescription opioid drugs, including alternatives to opioids for managing and treating pain, and the risks and signs of opioid abuse, addiction, and diversion.
