Overview
Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a vital part of enhancing nursing practice. It enables the provision of quality care to patients, ensures optimal outcomes, and lowers overall healthcare costs. This course will briefly discuss the historical context and definition of EBP, as well as differentiating EBP from research and QI, while also showing the collaborative process of the three. It will then discuss integrating EBP in both academic and clinic nursing settings and conclude with some barriers impacting EBP integrations and plausible solutions.

The goal of this course is to provide nurses in all clinical settings with the knowledge and strategic tools to implement EBP in their practice to improve both nursing and patient outcomes.
After taking this course, you should be able to:
  • Review the history, definition, and nursing application of EBP, as well as differentiate EBP from research and QI, and the complementary partnership of the three.
  • Recall how to integrate EBP in academic and clinical nursing settings.
  • Identify nursing barriers to EBP integration and possible solutions.
