CE Requirements for RNs

Total Hours Required: 30 | Elective Hours: 30 | Renewal Cycle in Years: 2

All RNs in the State of California who wish to maintain an active license are required to complete 30 hours of continuing education for license renewal.

The California Board of Nursing will not accept courses approved for less than 1.0 contact hour.

Nurses in California are required to complete one (1) hour of direct participation in an approved course covering implicit bias during their first two years of licensure.

Regulations that govern the practice of nurses in California may be found in the Administrative Rules for the Board of Nursing, California Administrative Code 16 CCR § 1451.

CE Requirements for LVNs

Total Hours Required: 30 | Elective Hours: 30 | Renewal Cycle in Years: 2

LVNs must complete 30 contact hours of Continuing Education every two years in order to renew their license with an active status.

The California Board of Nursing will not accept courses approved for less than 1.0 contact hour.

Nurses in California are required to complete one (1) hour of direct participation in an approved course covering implicit bias during their first two years of licensure.
