Goals and Learning Outcomes

Over 2 million people develop a pressure injury in the U.S. every year (Padula & Delarmente, 2019). This alarming statistic highlights the importance and relevance of an in-depth understanding of options available for the management of pressure injuries. It is crucial for healthcare professionals to have a comprehensive understanding of pressure injury pathophysiology, assessment and staging, as well as non-surgical, adjunct, and surgical treatment modalities to make informed decisions about the best course of treatment for their patients.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify and evaluate the nonsurgical treatment options for pressure injuries and the role of pressure injury staging and assessment.
  • Recognize the role of adjunct options in pressure injury treatment and identify patients who may benefit from these interventions.
  • Distinguish indications and techniques for surgical management of pressure injuries.
