Goals and Outcomes
Goals and Learning Outcomes

Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes pose significant burdens on the person affected by increasing their risk for significant comorbidities. Healthcare providers are in a unique position to provide early interventions that help those with diabetes gain control over their risk factors and influence disease outcomes. Physical activity is one of those interventions that can prevent disease onset and reduce the risk of associated complications (American Diabetes Association [ADA], 2022b). This course will review physical activity guidelines for people with diabetes, discuss how physical activity improves glycemic control, and provide strategies for prescribing an exercise regimen. The goal of this course is to educate the healthcare team in all settings on the benefits of physical activity for individuals with diabetes.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Recognize how physical activity improves diabetes outcomes.
  • Recall physical activity guidelines and the considerations for prescribing an exercise regimen.
