Goals and Learning Outcomes

Nurses in every state follow specific standards and licensing requirements to maintain their nursing practices. The Ohio Board of Nursing regulates nursing practice for public safety in Ohio. This course discusses the Ohio Board of Nursing and how the Ohio Nurse Practice Act impacts your nursing practice. It also discusses Ohio nurse licensure requisites, continuing education requirements, and the standards of practice, as stated in Chapter 4723 of the Ohio Administrative Code and Ohio Revised Code, required for you to remain compliant with Ohio law. The goal of this course is to educate Ohio nurses in all healthcare settings about the laws and regulations of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act. 


After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Explain at least three responsibilities of the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Identify two differences between licensed RNs and LPNs in Ohio.
  • Explain board-provided interpretive guidelines to assist nurse licensees to engage in safe nursing.
  • Describe at least three violations of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.
  • Discuss the eligibility requirements of the Alternative Program for Chemical Dependency.
  • Indicate the rights and responsibilities provided to all nurse licensees under the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.
