Goals and Learning Outcomes

This course will address the assessment of the nutrition and hydration status of older adults. It will review the methods for screening older adults for malnutrition, how to collect a nutrition history, what anthropometric and biochemical data is needed, and the components of a nutrition-focused physical exam. Reflective thinking and knowledge checks are presented throughout the course to promote active learning.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify older adult patients who are at risk for malnutrition.
  • Recall the components of a nutrition assessment.
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of poor hydration in older adult patients.
