Goals and Learning Outcomes

Each decade since the year 1990, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has published a Healthy People (HP) initiative that prioritizes health problems and disparities in the U.S. and sets targets for improvement (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion [OPDPHP], n.d.-a). A customized plan for improving health and wellness can be developed and adopted by organizations based on individual areas of greatest impact and interest. Targets for objectives provide goals for improvements.

The goal of this course is to educate nurses, dieticians, and respiratory therapy professionals about HP2030 and ways individuals and organizations can use HP2030 objectives to improve health and well-being.


After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe the vision and goals of the Healthy People initiative, along with the different types of objectives included in HP2030.
  • Discuss pertinent new and changed objectives in the 2030 version of the Healthy People initiative and their significance in practice.
  • Identify HP2030 objectives and evidence-based initiatives for improvement for respiratory diseases and nutrition and healthy eating.
