CE Requirements for Georgia RNs

  • In Georgia, RNs are required to complete 30 hours of continuing education every two years.

The CE activities must be approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing or by an acceptable accrediting agency such as Nurse.com or a state or national healthcare association recognized by the Board.

CE can be obtained through various formats, including online courses, workshops, seminars, and more formal educational courses. These activities should be relevant to the nurse’s area of practice or enhance their professional competence and knowledge.

License renewal process

The license renewal process for RNs in Georgia is conducted online through the Georgia Board of Nursing's official website. Here’s how it typically unfolds:

  • Log in to the Georgia Board of Nursing Portal: Nurses must access their account on the Board's online system, known as the Professional Licensing Boards Division.
  • Complete the renewal application: Update any personal and professional information, attest to the completion of the required CE hours, and answer a few legal and ethical practice questions.
  • Pay the renewal fee: The renewal fee for RNs in Georgia is $65

All CE documentation must be submitted to CE Broker. It's important for nurses to keep detailed records of their CE activities for at least four years, as they may need to provide proof of completion if audited by the Board.

Timelines and Important Dates

Nursing licenses in Georgia must be renewed every two years, with the renewal period ending on January 31st.

To avoid any lapse in licensure, RNs are encouraged to complete their CE hours and initiate the renewal process well before the deadline. The Board sends out renewal notifications as a reminder, but nurses should be proactive in tracking their own renewal dates and CE compliance.

Continuing education plays a crucial role in maintaining the quality and safety of nursing care in Georgia. By meeting their CE requirements, RNs not only adhere to regulatory standards but also position themselves for professional growth and enhanced patient care outcomes.

Effective planning and timely completion of these requirements are key to ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted renewal process, allowing nurses in Georgia to continue their vital work without any disruptions.
