Understanding the renewal cycle

In Missouri, LPN licenses expire on May 31 of even-numbered years. It's crucial to renew your license before this date to avoid any lapse in licensure.

LPN license renewal — Missouri requirements

To renew your Missouri LPN license, you must:

  • Enroll in Nursys e-Notify®. This enrollment is required as a condition of license renewal.
  • Submit a renewal application. Complete the online renewal process through the Missouri Division of Professional Registration's online portal.
  • Pay the renewal fee. Ensure timely payment to avoid late fees.

Continuing education requirements

Missouri doesn't require LPNs to complete continuing education (CE) hours for license renewal.

Timelines and important dates

  • Renewal period: This begins approximately three months before the license expiration date.
  • Expiration date: The deadline for license renewal is May 31 in even-numbered years.
  • No grace period: There is no grace period for renewal. It's recommended to renew at least three business days prior to the expiration date to ensure processing is complete.

Submitting the renewal application

To renew your license:

  1. Access the Missouri Division of Professional Registration's online portal. Log in or register at https://pr.mo.gov/nursing-renewal.asp.
  2. Complete the renewal application. Update your personal information and answer all required questions.
  3. Enroll in Nursys e-Notify®. If you’re not already enrolled, complete this step as it's mandatory for renewal.

Detailed instructions are available on the Missouri Board of Nursing website.

Renewal fees

The renewal fee for an LPN license in Missouri is $60.

Late renewal and reinstatement

If you miss the renewal deadline, your license will lapse. To reinstate it, you must:

  • Submit a reinstatement application. Contact the Missouri Board of Nursing for guidance.
  • Pay the reinstatement fee. This includes the standard renewal fee plus a late fee of $50 for each year the license lapsed, as well as the current renewal period.

Verification of license status

You can verify your license status through the Nursys verification service at https://www.nursys.com/. This tool confirms your license's status and expiration date.

Keeping track of records

Even though CE isn’t required, it's advisable to maintain records of any professional development activities. This documentation can be beneficial for personal tracking and in case of future regulatory changes.

Tips for a smooth renewal process

  • Start early. Begin the renewal process well before the expiration date to ensure all steps are completed on time.
  • Stay organized. Keep personal information up to date and maintain records of any professional development activities.
  • Use the online portal. The Missouri Division of Professional Registration's online portal offers a streamlined renewal process.
  • Monitor communications. Regularly check your email and the Missouri Board of Nursing website for updates or notifications regarding your license.
