Since Jan. 1, patients at Bayhealth Medical Center?s Kent and Milford campuses can tell the difference between clinical staff members ? just by looking at the color of their scrubs.
All registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, patient transport teams, and respiratory staff received new professional uniforms at the beginning of this year.
?Enabling patients and their families to recognize the professional staff was the driving force behind our decision to change our uniform policy,? says Chief Nurse Executive Bonnie Perratto, RN, MSN, CNAA-BC, FACHE. ?Now based on the color of their uniforms, our staff is easily identifiable.?
RNs and LPNs wear all-white scrubs or a combination of navy blue and white. Maternity nurses wear robin?s egg blue scrubs; nursing assistants wear tan and teal; patient transport teams wear brown and tan; respiratory staff wear Caribbean blue.
Staff members from various departments offered suggestions for what colors would be most appropriate for their units.
