Position Summary
Summary:
The Trauma Physician Assistant (PA) is a member of the surgical / trauma care team and has a primary responsibility for the management of critically ill complex (multi-organ) patients within the setting of intensive care units, telemetry and orthopedic floors. The Trauma PA is under the direct supervision of the attending surgeon or designated back-up surgeon(s). The Trauma PA has specialized skills and knowledge related to the traumatically injured patients to maintain continuity of care and facilitate progression of the patient through the complex trauma system within the hospital environment. The Trauma PA performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, and provides direct patient care services. The Trauma PA contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, consulting, and provides leadership to the organization and nursing profession.

Education Required
• Must complete in-house orientation program
• Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant Program
Experience And Skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Speaks, reads and writes English
• Experience and/or skills in the area of practice
• Good problem solving and analytical skills
License/Certifications
• Current NYS Physician Assistant Licensure/Registration.
• Continuing Education Units: CME as required by NYS to maintain licensure.
• Current NCCPA certification.
• BLS
• ACLS
• ATLS
