Job Description:

**We are seeking an experienced PRN Registered Nurse for the PCCU at the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute**

D/N Rotation or Nights

 

The Progressive Coronary Care Unit (PCCU) consists of a 28 bed unit on the first floor of

the INOVA Heart and Vascular Institute (IHVI). Patients admitted have diagnoses

primarily involving the cardiac system, and may or may not require invasive intervention.

All patients require cardiac telemetry monitoring, frequent nursing assessment, and

therapeutic intervention. Admission criteria outline the parameters for admission to the

unit. Care needs of the patients admitted may include, but are not necessarily limited to

patients requiring:

• Post myocardial infarction care

• Unstable angina care

• Dysrhythmia management

• Pre and post cardiac catheterization care

• Pre and post percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)

• Pre and post electrophysiology study and ablation care

• Pre and post pacemaker implantation care

• End stage cardiomyopathy care/ congestive heart failure care

• Pre and post cardioversion care

• Conduction of cardiology and nursing research studies

• Pre-open heart surgery

• Medical patient overflow when census dictates 

 

Clinical Practice & Care Coordination- The Inova Registered Nurse provides knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination through an understanding of patient, family, nurse and healthcare delivery team. Consistently providing safe, therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way. Incorporates differences into the provision of care. All patient care and interactions are patient and family centered. Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum to include patient and family education.  

 

Teamwork-Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others. Has respect for and understanding of other clinical disciplines. Uses an integrated approach toward patient outcomes.  

 

Quality/Best Practice- Nursing serves as an empowering body to influence patient empowerment as well as successful outcomes of financial and clinical quality through relationships and access based knowledge. Utilizing standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery. The process for delivery of care is synthesized from direct patient/family communication, technology, and other healthcare team member collaboration.

Job & Education Requirements:

-A minimum of 2 years Telemetry experience required.

 

-Proficient in English. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to display a caring demeanor toward others.

 

-Proficient computer skills required.

 

Education:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.

 

Certification:

BLS for Healthcare Provider certification required.  

ACLS certification desired
