Wound Management Job Description Wound Management Nurse Clinician Position Summary The Wound Management Nurse Clinician provides care to patients with a variety of woundcare needs and delivers care throughout the organization. Dutiesinclude utilization of clinical expertise to provide clinical care, counseling, & teaching to patients 0-99 years of age in need of wound management. The Nurse Clinician has aprimary responsibility for educating nurses to endure knowledge & competency in basic wound management; & works collaboratively with a variety of health care providers in planning and coordinating the care. The Wound Management Nurse Clinician is an integral part of multiple teams, as a clinician, educator, consultant, leader and investigator. Ideal Candidate

Standards: §Provides specialized nursing treatment, care & education to patients with wounds. §Serves as a resource to patients & families providing preoperative counseling & follow-up problem solving after discharge from the hospital. §Identifies patient caseload through referrals from Skin Care Champion(s), staff nurses, & physicians. §Utilizes comprehensive assessment skills in the evaluation of wound care & stoma products and supplies in an effort to provide quality cost effective care. §Provides specialized nursing treatment, care & education to patients requiring continence management or other specialized urologic interventions, as needed for coverage for
Standards: §Coordinates the development, utilization, & evaluation of appropriate educational resources & interventions that assist the patient/caregiver in developing the skills for self care. §Utilized teaching & learning theories to assist patients & families with physical & emotional impact of body changes & chronic illness. §Provides additional information/community resources to enhance the patients quality of life as it relates to the alterations in body image & life style. §Participates n the orientation of new nursing staff & proved expert coaching and guidance through both formal & informal one-on-one teaching with nursing staff. §Provides clinical experience in a preceptor role for nursing students attending institutions that have contractual agreements with DUHS. §Assess the educational needs to the patient/caregiver as it relates to the disease process, alteration in function, & assimilation back into the home & community. 3. Research Utilization and Investigation Standards: §Utilizes current nursing & clinical research to support evidence-based clinical decision-making & practice. §Promotes evidence-based practice through staff education & leadership in developing, implementing, & evaluating process standards such as plans of care, protocols, & guidelines. §Provides leadership in nursing & interdisciplinary process improvement projects, product evaluation, outcome evaluation studies, and/or clinical research. 4. Consultant Standards: §Serves as a resource and consultant to nursing, members of the healthcare community, & to the larger community in areas of wound, ostomy, & continence management strategies. §Designs, implements & evaluates programs & projects to facilitate the institutional goals & objectives for wound, ostomy, & continence management. §Provides leadership in the assessment, development & implementation of policies/procedures, clinical pathways, & standards of care related to wound, ostomy & continence management. §Provides leadership in the development of patient education materials that enhance patient care outcomes within clinical specialty. §Participates in & supports accreditation & regulatory activities of §Serves as an effective change agent, using strategies such as navigating complex systems, promoting effective communications, & representing the broader context of care delivery. 5. Professional Development & Leadership Standards: §Role model professional nursing through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, & problem-solving skills. §Supports & participates in the strategic plan for the Duke University Health System, Wound Management & the Department of Nursing. §Communicates effectively to maintain positive working relationships. §Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participants in professional organization. Education Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing.Experience Three years of experience in clinical nursing practice is required.Degrees, Licensures, Certifications Licensure in the State of North of Carolina is required. |
