Staff Nurse Per Diem - Swedish Cancer Institute Medical Oncology
This is a regular, hourly, 8 hour, day shift position, per diem. There is no guarantee of hours worked. This position is not eligible for benefits.
Salary Scale: Scale begins at $26.97 per hour. Placement within the scale is dependent upon years of work experience.
Premiums: Evening - $2.75/hr, Night - $3.75/hr, Weekend - $4.00/hr
Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care adapted to individual patient needs based on the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This position is accountable and responsible for planning and providing comprehensive outpatient care to patients/families being cared by for the Medical Oncology physicians of the Cancer Institute. The nurses understanding of the pathophysiology of cancer as well as the major treatment modalities and investigational protocols enables her/him to participate fully in all phases of care for the patient and their significant support system. The nurse is responsible for triage, symptom management, patient/family education, and end-of-life care. The nurse is responsible for identifying special needs of patients and making referrals to other healthcare professionals to facilitate holistic care of each patient.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
Current Washington State Registered Nursing license, Oncology Certified Nurse, preferred. Successful completion of the ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course, preferred. Current BLS certification required.
Minimum of one year current medical oncology nursing experience, preferably in an acute care facility. Outpatient clinic experience strongly preferred. Ability to operate medical equipment. Adequate knowledge to perform assessments, plan patient care, provide direct care, and educate and orient patients, families and staff. Able to work with a wide range of staff as part of an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff. Able to read, write, understand and communicate in English. Ability to complete mathematical calculation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, equivalencies). Must demonstrate clinical and organizational skills related to the care of patients. Ability to plan and modify clinical services based on the age, growth, and developmental stage of the patient. Emotional stability with the ability to adapt to rapidly changing and stressful situations. Basic computer skills required. Excellent interpersonal skills and excellent problem-solving skills required. Must be able to triage both in the clinic and on the telephone. Possesses strong awareness of personal values and an ability to recognize and respect diversity of values systems within the oncology patient population.
