Responsibilities
Responsible for providing nursing care to patients.  May also be required to perform supervisory functions and assume a leadership role.  Typical Functions include the following.  Other functions may be assigned.  Consistently and independently delivers dependable and effective patient care in a variety of patient situations, from common to complex, using the nursing process.  Demonstrates refined assessment skills, integrating appropriate data sources.  Plans individualized patient care and patient education in collaboration with other healthcare disciplines.  Implements a plan to address short and long term care needs.  Evaluates and documents patient's response to interventions, adjusting plan of care and educational strategies based on patients needs and readiness to learn.  Accurately documents the components of the nursing process in a timely manner.  Precepts and mentors newly employed staff and students.  Assumes a leadership role, partnering with other disciplines.  Delegates appropriately to other team members and evaluates the effectiveness of the delegation.  Seeks ways to identify and improve the quality of patient care.  Actively participates in practice setting management (performance improvement, projects, committees).  Solicits and offers feedback on patient concerns and practice setting issues.  Promotes cohesive team behavior.  Identifies and participates in resolution of system issues.  Accepts accountability for professional development of self, through formal and informal staff education.  Incorporates the concepts and principles of evidence based practice into own practice.  To be competitive applicants must have graduated from an accredited School of Nursing with a minimum of one year of nursing experience. Must be a registered nurse and currently licensed to practice nursing in the State of Virginia.  Specific ladder level will be determined based on competency assessment, and the salary range for that ladder level will apply.  Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families and co-workers.  Ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.  Ability to manage time effectively.  Employment in this job is conditioned upon satisfactory completion of a drug test.
