One (100%) day shift career position with benefits starting on the date of hire.

Duties and Responsibilities:
-Under the direction of the Business and Finance Manager, the Financial Counselor is responsible for working with patients who express difficulty in paying, assisting patients with Medi-Cal and other public assistance application processes, setting up payment plans if necessary, and identifying patients for UCSD's Charity Care Program. 
-This position will coordinate efforts within the Patient Access Services Department to determine and educate the patient of their financial liabilities, collect any amounts owed, and oversee the financial investigation to identify payment sources and possible alternatives. 
-Work Un funded/non-secured accounts to minimize financial loss to the Medical Center. 
-Typical duties include obtaining eligibility, benefit information, authorizations, Patient demographic information, collect deductibles and patient liabilities. 
-The Financial Counselor must have working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet applications and the Internet. 
-The Financial Counselor will work directly with medical staff, nursing, ancillary departments, insurance carriers and other internal & external professionals to assist families in obtaining healthcare and financial services. 
-Critical to this position is the ability to gather and record all appropriate information that lays the groundwork for the remaining or future fiscal efforts of UCSD. 
-Job standards are to be performed at the EXPERT level.

Qualifications:
-Minimum 2 years administrative experience in a large, complex healthcare environment.
-Thorough knowledge of third party payors and reimbursement requirements, medical terminology, ICD-9, and CPT codes.
-Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
-Bilingual: Spanish/English required.
