Location: San Diego, CA
Department: Pulmonary Special Procedures Unit
Payroll Title: Surgical Technician, Per Diem
Positions: 1
Filing Deadline: 11/18/09
One (10%) per diem day shift position available.

Duties and Responsibilities:
-Responsible for setting up and assisting physician/nurse in all PSPU procedures (including rigid and flexible bronchscopy, EBUS, Thoracentesis, ICU procedures and others).
-Maintain equipment and assure appropriate scope washing compliance and infection control, coordinate internal supply orders, restock and maintain inventory, assist in billing functions and in maintaining unit statistics, assist with administrative tasks in the department.
-Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized environment to faciliate patient care. 
-Job standards to be performed under general supervision.

Special Conditions of Employment:
-Surgical Tech certification or equivalent specialized training required.
-C.P.R./B.L.S. certification required (recognized by AHA or equivalent).

Qualifications:
-One year previous experience as a Surgical Technician.
-Must embody UCSD Core Values, be flexible and able to utilize critical thinking skills while multi-tasking. 
-Must be available for occasional overtime. 
-Should be proficient with computers and technology.
-Demonstrated knowledge of maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients undergoing surgical procedures.
-Demonstrated knowledge of a wide variety of surgical instrumentation used in various surgical procedures.
-Excellent communication skills.

Preferred:
-Two or more years experience as a surgical technician, experience in outpatient surgical or procedure areas.
-Bachelor's Degree.
-Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
