The Interoperative Monitoring Technologist: -Performs neurophysiological monitoring in the operating room to assist in assessing the functional integrity of the peripheral and/or central nervous system during vascular, orthopedic, and neurosurgical operative procedures. -May furnish the surgeon a description of the waveforms being recorded, provided the surgeon has received sufficient END education to interpret the technologist's waveform descriptions. -Will record procedures such as electroencephalograms, evoked potentials, compressed spectral array, electrocorticography, and topographic brain mapping. -May furnish the surgeon a description of the waveforms being recorded. -Is responsible for documenting in the patient's chart the waveform description given to the surgeon. -Works under the direct supervision of the Clinical Neurophysiology Supervisor and general supervision of the Clinical Neurophysiology Medical Director with supervision to include direct observation and feedback on the performance of the Principal EEG Technologist in the following areas: performing technical duties, adherence to Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures, and the technicians overall attitude; and the supervisor will suggest appropriate means of improving the technician's academic knowledge of neurophysiology.
The Interoperative Monitoring Technologist must: -Be a Registered EEG Technician or REPT or Board Eligible and have a current CPR/BCLS certification. -Have a minimum of five (5) years IOM experience. -Have intermediate knowledge of Neurology, with emphasis on brainstem anatomy, sensory, and peripheral nerves relating to EP and HCV testing. -Be able to calibrate and adjust inaccurate calibration signals for EEG, telemetry, and EP apparatus. -Have knowledge of basic medical terms and sufficient knowledge of neurologic terms to interpret patient medical charts, and to abstract or obtain valid patient history from chart or directly from patient. -Be able to use montages in order to enhance and better define abnormalities. -Be able to maintain flexibility to participate in an on-call schedule and to work overtime, to include postponing breaks and lunch hour as critical cases dictate. -Be able to lift boxes weighing approximately 35 lbs. -Be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs. -Have excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and be able to articulate complex ideas for all levels of audiences. -Be a self-starter who is accountable and requires minimal direction and supervision; a person who is open to new ideas; and a creative and flexible individual who is comfortable working in a large, complex organization. -Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability.
Preferred: -ABRET Certification in EEG, EPs and CNIM, but may be waived in unusual circumstances.
