Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, this position assumes Nursing Leadership for Psychiatric Services with regard to admission of patients, staffing of units, and assist in assessment of "walk-in" patients. Performs administrative duties and supervises daily operational functions of the nursing office and the inpatient units.
Qualifications:
Requires a BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing; or an equivalent combination of training and five (5) years progressively responsible experience as a RN and certification in a related nursing field that will result in the required specialized knowledge and abilities to perform the assigned work.Masters degree is preferred.Requires five (5) years progressively responsible experience as a RN. Prefer three (3) years acute psychiatric nursing and one (1) year experience in a supervisory or management role.Must posses a current, valid Arizona RN license and be in good standing with the AZBoard of Nursing. Must have current BLS and CPI certification.Requires the ability to read, write and speak effectively in English. Ability to work with culturally diverse people is a must. Bilingual is preferred. Must have excellent communication, time management and customer service skills. Computer knowledge with DOS and windows based systems is a plus.

Maricopa Integrated Health Systemoperates one of the largest Level I Acute Psychiatric Hospitals in the State ofArizona, with a total of 190 licensed beds located on two campuses: theDesert Vista Behavioral Health CenterinMesaand theBehavioral Health Annex of Maricopa Medical CenterinPhoenix. This department serves only adult patients, with one unit focusing on geriatric individuals and those with special medical needs in addition to their psychiatric diagnosis. ( The Annex )
The majority of the patients are admitted on an involuntary basis under a court order for mental health treatment. One unit at the Desert Vista facility accepts patients seeking help on a voluntary basis.
As part of the teaching mission of MIHS, the Psychiatry Department is a place of learning for psychiatric residents, medical students, nursing students and other allied health professionals interested in pursuing a career path in behavioral health.
