Assistant Director
Health Sector Management Program in Clinical Informatics (HSM CI)


Summary
This role would report into the Managing Director, Health Sector
Management Program and would
function along side Teresa Sothcott (Assistant Director HSM Daytime)
and Cindy Seymour (Assistant
Director HSM EMBA). This role is distinct from the roles of Cindy and
Teresa in the following ways:
(1) this program is being built from the ground up, thus along side
normal activities outlined
below, this position is responsible for the successful development ,
implementation and launch of
this new program as such this candidate will have quite a bit of
latitude in terms of decision
making and (2) this program is a collaboration between Fuqua/DCRI/Duke
Med/DUHS so this role will
require the involvement of and ability to interface with colleagues in
each of those areas to
successfully establish , develop, promote and launch this program (3)
the role will report directly
to the Managing Director with indirect reporting to Dr. Kevin Schulman
(Faculty Director of HSM),
Asif Ahmad (CIO of DUHS and DUMC) and Dr. Ed Hammond (Director of the
Center for Clinical
Informatics).
Success of the program is dependent upon the selected candidate#s
ability to successfully meet and
achieve the below goals:
# Recruitment Strategy
# Curriculum Development
# Marketing and Branding Strategies
# Budget development, implementation and monitoring
# Working with Ana to establish a strategic business development plan #
Monitoring of program for continuous process/strategy improvement as
program is
launched.


Responsibilities
The main responsibilities, as identified above, are discussed in detail
below.
Recruiting / Admissions
# Develop and Implement a recruiting and admissions strategy
# Participate in recruiting
for the program; organize and attend recruiting events and information
sessions.
# Participate in the admission process for program candidates including
the review of
applications
for prospective students; interview / advise prospective students;
# Participate in the
delegation and awarding of all named scholarships; assist Financial Aid
and
Alumni Relations staff in stewarding relationship(s) with donors
Student-Facing


# Develop and implement tool to track student#s matriculation through
CI program. Oversee
students'
matriculation through program requirements and advise regarding their
selected program of study
# Develop and implement tool to measure student satisfaction with
program annually, use
data for
program enhancements/direction.
# Create and implement a student-run Clinical Informatics Club
leadership team to
strengthen program
and club collaboration.
# Identify opportunities for networking.
Curricular
# Work with HSM Director (Dr. Schulman) and Asif Ahmad to
develop/implement curriculum
requirements
# Oversee and coordinate curriculum scheduling across CI program
Marketing &
Communications
# Develop and implement a marketing strategy to successfully launch the
new program.
# Develop and update a program web site
# Develop HSM CI brand through creative marketing tools and materials
CI Program
Operations & Administration
# Develop and implement an operating budget appropriate for the new
program
# Oversee CI program operating budget
# Manage program budget proactively to ensure targets are met # Compile
a variety of
program documentation and reports related to program for program
certification, grant management and reporting etc
# Work with Director, the HSM Managing Director andother staff on
programs & projects to
grow the
HSM CI brand in the context of the overall HSM brand.
Co- and Extra-Curricular
# Develop and implement CI program related co and extra curricular
activities.
# Oversee the coordination of all CI program-related events
implemented;
# Define and develop supplemental student programming opportunities
across the CI
program, as well
as across Fuqua and Duke
# Evaluate the success of the programs implemented and revise as
program matures
Career Management Center (CMC)
# Implement strategies for career coaching for CI students
# Supervise Career Coaching for CI students.
# Serve as lead liaison to the CMC to collaborate with regards to
recruitment opportunities
and
initiatives for CI students
# Serve as resource to CI students with regards to their career search
# Provide
mentoring support as needed
Alumni Relations
# Create alumni database for newly created CI program # this should
system should be
able to be
implemented as program turns out first class of graduates.
# Work with Development Alumni Relations (DAR) to develop ways for
alumni to remain
involved and
connected with the program (life long learning opportunities, affinity
group) # with specific
attention to Young Alumni
# Work with Alumni Gifts- Major Gifts projects for fundraising specific
projects for program
initiatives
Education and Experience
Master#s degree with minimum of 3 years applicable experience preferred
but Bachelor#s degree in a
related field along with a minimum of 6+ years applicable experience
may be substituted. Experience
in an academic environment is preferred. Strong leadership and
management skills. Refined written
and oral communication skills. Excellent writing and editing skills.
Strong work ethic in a
fast-paced, results-oriented team environment. Creativity,
adaptability, and diplomatic skills.
Proficiency with all Microsoft Office products (Windows, Word,
PowerPoint, Excel and Access) and
willingness and ability to master proprietary database and calendaring
tools.

Education

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work generally requires two years experience in personnel, college or university administration, or a related field to acquire skills necessary to provide program management, advising and general administrative support. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
