The Hematology Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the provision of competent, safe, out-patient and in-patient care as mandated by standards set forth by the St. Christopher's Hospital for Children policies/procedures, Nursing policies/procedures, JCAHO Standards, and the CRNP Scope of Practice and Standards. This individual will: 1. Perform and document comprehensive patient histories and physicals. 2. Determine the appropriate studies and arrange for these to be performed. 3. Review and interpret study results, seeking additional input as needed from the Pediatric Hematologist. 4. Institute appropriate therapy in consultation with the Hematologist. 5. Identify those complex hematologic problems that require further, hands-on evaluation by the pediatric Hematologist. 6. Provide the patient and family with appropriate care instructions including any further clarification needed to insure that the patient's medical needs are met. 7. Provide effective case management. 8. Maintain close telephone communication with selected patients. 8. Arrange emergency visits to the Hematologist and or admission to the hospital as needed. 9. Consult with other medical and social services or the primary physician as needed. 10. Serve as a liaison with nursing services. 11. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care and alter interventions and long term approaches as needed and with the assistance of the Hematologist.
Qualifications
Required for position:
    - Masters in Nursing
    - Licensure to practice as a registered nurse in Pennsylvania
    - Licensure to practice as a certified registered nurse practitioner in Pennsylvania
    - American Heart Association CPR/BLS
Preferred skills in addition to requirements listed:
    - National certification by ANCC or NAPNAP preferred
    - Prior work experience suitable for the position
