The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for diagnosing, evaluating, screening and treating adults and children with speech/language/cognitive/swallowing disorders and cognitive disorders; generating all required reports and documentation procedures and maintaining liaison with referring physicians.He/She demonstrates competency in caring for patients of specific ages as designated in unit structure standards.
Completes, assesses patient's needs prior to establishing the plan of care.
Provides direct patient care on a daily basis or as indicated by patient need/condition and in the case of a staffing shortage, according to established priority guidelines.
Assesses patient's progress and adjusts treatment plan as indicated.
Consults with appropriate medical personnel regarding patient's needs, status, and discharge plans. Maintains accurate and current documentation in patient's medical record.
Provides instruction and teaching of therapeutic procedures and ongoing routine care as needed.
Maintains accurate patient treatment records and completes billing from billing sheets according to department billing procedures and within established timeframes.
