DIRECTOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
Under general direction, to plan, direct and coordinate the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system; to assist in the development and implementation of the Valley Health System Disaster Plan and to coordinate EMS during disaster relief; and to do other work as required.

Requires:
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing, allied health, health care administration or closely related health field.  (Additional qualifying specialized experience may be substituted for up to two years of the required education on the basis of 30 semester or 45 quarter units equaling one year of experience)
• Minimum of six years experience as a Registered Nurse in emergency medical services, acute care setting, hospital administration or healthcare agency, at least four years of which included supervisory or management level responsibility.
• Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California (ACLS Certification, BLS Certification, PALS Certification)

Knowledge of:

• The principles of planning, developing, and organizing emergency medical care services.
• Methods, techniques and programs that can be effectively utilized in providing emergency medical care services.
• Principles of administration, management and supervision.
• The application of statistical methods to management analysis.
• Local, State and Federal policies, procedures, guidelines and legislation affecting emergency medical services.

Ability to:
• Manage emergency or crisis situations; requires judgment/action which could result in undesirable patient outcome.
• Plan, organize and direct a program to analyze and evaluate emergency medical care services.
• Write project proposals and develop programs.
• Formulate and develop policies for an emergency medical care delivery system.
• Devise, prepare and present comprehensive reports and recommendations.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of different organizations and individuals.
• Communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
• Prepare and analyze budget.
• Supervise and evaluate the work of others.
• Recognize and operate EMS equipment.
• Manage emergency or crisis situations; requires judgment/action, which could result in undesirable patient outcome.
