Location: Hillcrest/Thornton
Filing Deadline: 12/31/09

Per Diem - Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) Preceptor, the student nurse may perform skills consistent with their academic preparation. The RN preceptor may delegate to the student nurse any function taught in the student nurse's basic nursing program that, in the judgment of the RN preceptor, the student nurse is capable of performing. When the student nurse is judged competent, the preceptor is to date and sign skills check list, the student nurse may then perform these skills under general supervision. The student nurse supports the continuum of care. Participates in medical records coding and monitoring of quality assurance, such as chart audits. Utilizes a variety of technical equipment and supplies. This position requires initiative, the ability to prioritize demands and the ability to work in a team environment. The student nurse may assist in identifying and implementing nursing interventions and evaluated results for a wide variety of patient populations, under direct RN supervision.

Special Conditions of Employment: (MUST MEET ALL THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS)

1 - Currently enrolled in an affiliated/accredited School of Nursing RN program
2 - SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED a minimum of the third semester (ADN) or fourth semester (BSN) of nursing school. (Refer to the following link http://edr.ucsd.edu/nursefacstu.htm and select "Student Nurse" for more information).
3 - Must have recommendation from clinical nursing instructor to be hired as a student nurse (to be brought in at time of interview)
4 - Must have and maintain BCLS-C certification
5 - Must be able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays, as needed
6 - Must be able to work at both UCSD Hillcrest and Thornton hospitals as needed
