JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs the primary functions of an RN in triaging, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients of the unit during his/her shift, according to Emergency Services policies and procedures, JCAHO and ENA Standards of Emergency Practice, and the Colorado Nurse Practice Act.  Responsible for managing all assigned personnel, supplies and equipment on the unit, and for promoting teamwork with physicians and personnel of other departments.  Is able to function independently with only occasional or limited supervision.  Performs all other duties as assigned.


Core competencies:  Medication Administration, Restraint Use, General Assessment, Pain Management, Falls, Blood Administration, Emergent Blood Administration, Age Specific, Compliance and computerized annual required education (HealthStream); additional competencies as defined by Department Director.

 

POSITION RELATIONS
A.  Supervised By: Emergency Services Director


B.   Personnel Supervised: None

QUALIFICATIONS
A.  Education: Required:  Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Colorado.  CPR required by completion of the unit-specific orientation and before working independently; ACLS and TNCC required within 6 months of employment.  CEN preferred.


B.   Experience: 6 months to a year medical/surgical acute care preferred.  Prefer previous critical care experience.


C.    Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:  Pursues programs of continuing education consistent with requirements of the Colorado Board of Nursing.  Participates in educational conferences and updates and maintains professional knowledge and skills related to areas of responsibility.  Attends mandatory in-services as required by Platte Valley Medical Center.  Is required to attend 75% of staff meetings per year.  This job may require the employee to be responsible for the assessment, treatment, or care of patients of all ages, including neonate, child, adolescent, and geriatric.  Consequently, the employee must be competent in the interpretation of a patient's self-report or behavior, and this information must be interpreted with an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process.  The treatment of patients should be individualized and should reflect an understanding of the developmental needs and range of treatment needs for each patient.  (See "Competency Assessment" policy)

Weekend and/or Holiday Rotation may be required.
Rotating Shifts may be required.
