OB Technician-Labor & Delivery Dept.
Department: Labor and Delivery
Schedule: Full-Time
Shift: Days/Nights 3 12 hour shifts
Hours: 7a-7:30p & 7p-7:30a


Job Details: The OB Technician works as a skilled technician under the supervision of an RN to observe patients and provide outcome oriented, safe therapeutic, compassionate and cost effective care.  Performs duties to assist families in t he childbearing process and with their postpartum care.  Prepares the operating room, selects and organizes the instruments, assists the surgeon, participates in surgical procedures taking into account physician preferences and patient care principles.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


The ideal candidate will be able to understand human anatomy and related surgical procedures such as sterile techniques use of equipments and instruments, and basic OR procedures (surgical, infection, and contamination). Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.


High school or GED is required, a certification and/or successful completion of an Operating Room Technician training program are preferred; this may be provided by Sibley Memorial Hospital. As well, a completion of a Patient Care Technician training course or comparable training of job experience with training to demonstrated need skills. CPR training is required (BLS for Healthcare Providers and Heartsaver/AED are required for all OB Techs employees). Current Basic Life Support training is required.  Hospital and/or medical work experience are preferred.
