- The RNFA supports the operating room by assisting the surgeon during surgical intervention. The RNFA acts as the surgeon's assistant by applying traction or counter-traction as needed, helping to maintain hemostasis during surgery and assisting with wound closure at the completion of the surgical procedure. Demonstrates competencies of the Missouri Nurse Practice Act by practicing within established policies and practice guidelines.
- Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy as related to a wide range of surgical procedures and follows Surgeons' orders in a proficient manner at all times.
- Assists in assessing patient needs by communicating with the surgeon as to the nature of the surgery and what will be expected of the assistant.
- Assists staff in patient transfer to the Operating Room table and aids in positioning. Stands in attendance for anesthesia and assists during induction as requested following established department and hospital procedures.
- Assists Operating Room staff in checking and setting up special equipment in order to facilitate and expedite the surgical procedure per established procedures.
Qualifications
- RN licenseure in the State of Missouri required.
- BSN, BA or BS in related field preferred.
- CNOR (Certified Nurse of the Operating Room) preferred. Previous perioperative experience.
- CPR certification.
