I. Position Summary:

The Charge RN oversees and directs the care of the patients. Serves as a clinical resource and acts as a role model for staff and is the liaison between staff and management, assisting the Director of Patient Care in determining staffing needs and identifying problems. The Charge Nurse assists the staff in patient care assessment, planning interventions and in problem solving. This is a clinical position, and patient assignments will be taken when necessary. The position requires budgetary commitment to the staffing matrix, peer evaluations, chart audits and management duties as assigned. The Charge RN facilitates the collaboration of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care, oversees and directs the care of assistive personnel, and maintains accountability for the care given to assigned patients.


I. Position Requirements

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Must have a current Colorado Registered Nurse License, current BCLS, PALS and ENPC certification.

B. Education:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing preferred.

C. Experience:

Two years of pediatric acute care / specialty nursing is required. One to three years experience in charge / supervisory position is preferred. Able to articulate and demonstrate knowledge of nursing theory and practice.

D. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Demonstrates good organizational skills, ability to plan and provide for delivery of nursing services.
