POSITION SUMMARY: The Staff Development Coordinator assists and supports the translation of the nursing philosophy of the center into nursing practice by participating in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the nursing care delivery system. He/she assesses the educational needs of the staff and plans, develops, and implements training programs to meet those needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Plans, develops and directs the orientation program for all employees; supervises and monitors nursing employees throughout individualized orientation period;
2. Develops in-service programs in response to staff needs and teaches staff current accepted customer care and center practices;
3. Coordinates and teaches Nurse Aide Certification courses, where applicable;
4. Participates in interdepartmental meetings to assess and coordinate need for in-service;
5. Assists in evaluation of performance of new nursing personnel;
6. Directs and/or assists in development and implementation of nursing center Q.I. Program;
7. Assists with ongoing development and revision of Nursing Procedure Manual;
8. Makes daily unit rounds in all customer care areas to assist with maintaining quality nursing services rendered;
9. Assumes responsibilities for Nursing Department in absence of Director of Nursing/Assistant D.O.N.;
10. Functions as nursing administrative on-call, as scheduled;
11. Maintains in-service records on all employees;
12. Directs the implementations of clinical initiatives;
13. Develops in-service programs for all disciplines each calendar year which includes State/Federal mandatory in-services;
14. Puts Customer Service First: Ensures that customers and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights;
15. Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications : SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. The Staff Development Coordinator must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current registered nurse licensure by the State Board of Nursing.
2. A minimum of three years full-time or equivalent clinical experience is required and a minimum of two years of clinical experience in long-term care nursing with one year in a management/administrative or supervisory capacity is preferred.
3. Previous experience teaching adults is recommended.
