The ICU RN is responsible for: - Monitoring and recording the status of critical care patients and responding appropriately to signs of deterioration in the patient's condition
- Familiar with the use and maintenance of state of the art medical devices intended to record patient's vital signs or to assist in life support functions
- Observing the patient's heart rate, blood pressure and respiration for signs of distress
- Ensuring that life support equipment, such as ventilators and feeding tubes, functions properly
- Administering IVs, bringing medication and inserting catheters
