A prestigious hospital is looking for a Substance Abuse APRN/PA.  The Substance Abuse Mid-Level Practitioner works in collaboration with physicians, and other multidisciplinary team members in an active practice to provide care to patients who are diagnosed with or who are at risk for acute alcohol withdrawal.  This is a great opportunity for a PA or NP!

Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Director Hospitalist Program and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, the Mid-level Practitioner:

  • Consults on and coordinates the care and treatment of patients who are diagnosed with or who are risk for acute alcohol withdrawal and those who have issues with the use, abuse and dependence on alcohol
  • Evaluates and oversees the prescription of psychotrophic and non-psychotrophic medications to patients on the medical/surgical units after required discussion of the case with and concurrence of the medical and psychiatric attending physicians
  • Assesses of patients in the emergency department, including required discussion with and concurrence of the psychiatric attending before disposition
  • Collaborates with physicians and the multidisciplinary team members in developing and executing the discharge plan for patients with alcohol withdrawal
  • Serves as a consultant and resource person for multi-disciplinary team members and provides in-service education/training in related to this specialty
  • Performs independent visits and/or co-visits to assure patients with acute alcohol withdrawal are being managed according to best practice standards
Required Skills
  • APRN or PA licensure
  • Experience in psych and/or substance abuse
  • Recent acute care experience
