Position Summary: This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora/Centennial Medical Plaza of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for the prevention, detection and control of infections in the facility. The individual is responsible for establishing, instituting and maintaining an effective system for evaluation and reporting infections in patients. All of this shall be accomplished based on a systematic body of professional knowledge. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse. Completion of Infection Control Surveillance course is preferred. Certification in Infection Control is desired.

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.

Experience: Three to five years clinical nursing required and demonstrated previous infection control experience.

Special Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members. Strong critical thinking skills. Demonstrates knowledge of microbiology, normal flora, pathogens and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

Degree of supervision required: Involves general guidance and direction by the Patient Care Director. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
