Responsibilities
1.  Supports professional standards of care delivery by: (a) functioning within BON scope of practice and SFH policies & procedures; (b) accepting only those assignments that take into consideration patient safety and that are commensurate with educational preparation, experience, knowledge, and Seton validated competencies; (c) assisting with or observing those skills and procedures in which competency will be learned in the RN Residency (ex: blood administration).
2.  Assists preceptor/designee with initial/admission history and physical to determine the health status/needs of patients based upon interpretation of health data.
3.  Formulates goals/outcomes and plans of care based on nursing diagnoses in collaboration with the patient and the interdisciplinary health care team and validates with preceptor/designee.
4.  Provides focused and ongoing shift assessments to include documentation.
5.  Collaborates with patients and the interdisciplinary healthcare team for the delivery of population-specific care to include patient teaching, patient hand-off communication and evaluation of care to therapeutic interventions.
6.  Assists preceptor/designee with discharges and transfers of patients to include and not limited to medication reconciliation, patient/family teaching, hand-off communication and documentation.
7.  Becomes proficient in utilizing appropriate paper and/or electronic documentation forms.
8.  As a novice practitioner, seeks and receives direction, supervision, consultation and collaboration from an experienced RN preceptor/designee. Primary commitment is to the patient; advocates for, and strives to protect the health, safety, and rights of patients and families.
9.  Learns to be a good steward of resources with time management, supplies/equipment and persons time while maintaining quality patient care and productive unit involvement.
10.  Assists in conducting performance improvement activities to include audits and observations. Learns how to improve patient care and patient satisfaction.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's in Nursing is preferred.  Current temporary license/authorization to practice as a Graduate Nurse (GN) in the state of Texas is required.  Acceptance into the Seton Family of Hospitals Versant Residency Program is required.

Per the BON, the temporary authorization is not renewable and expires when the NCLEX_RN is either passed or failed or on the 75th day following the effective date of the temporary authorization (whichever occurs first).

Must pass medication calculation examination and, as applicable, specialty medication exam prior to independently administering any medications.

Internal associates must be employed at Seton for one year (12 months) prior to graduation and have made application to the Seton Family of Hospitals Versant Residency Program in order to work as a GN before the residency program begins.
Preferred Qualifications
RN Residency June 2013 application must be approved prior to completing this Seton Employment application.
