Position Summary: The Charge Nurse provides direction, serves as a resource and acts as a role model for staff to ensure comprehensive and safe patient care. The Charge Nurse serves as a liaison and promotes teamwork within the department. The Charge Nurse assists the Director in establishing unit specific goals, determining work procedures and expediting work flow; ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and regulatory compliances; following staffing matrix/LUR’s, conducting evaluations and chart audits and performing any duties as assigned.
The Charge Nurse assists the staff in patient care assessment, planning interventions and being involved in problem solving. The Charge Nurse performs delegated duties consistent with his/her scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan of care delivery. The Charge Nurse is also a RN who demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for his/her patients based on criteria that is age appropriate and is based on the physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety and learning needs of the individual patient.
Position Requirements: Licensure / Certification / Registration: Licensed to practice as an RN in the State of Colorado. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and any unit specific certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS);
A. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN. Activity in professional organizations encouraged.
B. Experience: Minimum two years of experience as an RN. Previous experience in charge/supervisory position desirable. Education, experience or certification specific to clinical area recommended.
C. Special Qualifications: Continuing demonstration of clinical and leadership competency. Commitment and understanding of staffing matrix/productivity standard. Committed to the goals of the unit, patient safety initiatives and positive patient experience.
D. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Demonstrates good organizational skills. Provides safe and appropriate patient care within the standards of nursing practice. Displays judgment and superior problem solving skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers.
