Responsibilities

 

  

         Must have extensive knowledge of all chemotherapeutic agents both commercial and investigational and be able to function as resource person. Must have knowledge of and experience in use of ancillary therapies such as anti emetic and pain control programs. Demonstrat

 Education:    Bachelor of Science in Nursing or individual with equivalent work experience and appropriate training.

Experience:   At least three years of oncology nursing experience including one year of management experience.

Licensure:     Current State of Connecticut license to practice nursing and must have certificate of oncology nursing.

Skills:    clinical competence in utilization of the nursing process in caring for hematology/oncology patients. Must be able to plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities of nurse clinicians. Must be highly skilled in intravenous access and therapy. Must be able to educate other professional nurses and paramedical personnel in the management of the patient with oncologic or hematologic disorders. Should understand the principles of clinical trials and be able to collect, organize and collate data with specific emphasis on toxic side effects and tumor response. Demonstrates leadership and management skills including communication, problem solving and decision making. 

 

 

Responsibilities

 

 Under the limited supervision of theClinical Director of Hematology/Oncology, is responsible for the management of patient care and patient care areas in the hematology/oncology outpatientCancer Center. Coordinates the day to day activities in the outpatient Cancer Center and is responsible for the overall supervision of nursing personnel. As a working supervisor, the individual also works as a nurse clinician, providing direct patient care to the adult patient , utilizing the nursing process.
