| Job Summary: | The Lactation Consultant provides education & intervention to mothers who choose to breastfeed and to promote knowledge, competence and support among the staff responsible for patient care. |
| Requirements: | -Must possess an Associates Degree. -Must be licensed (RN) to practice in Maryland or must be able to obtain a Maryland license based on timeframe of licensing board. -Must possess IBCLC Certification. -Five (5) years current clinical experience in perinatal care. -Three (3) years experience as an LC -Must have strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, knowledge of adult learning principles, knowledge of human growth & development, expert knowledge of maternal child nursing and lactation. -Must be able to perform breast assessments history taking use of breast pumps, shields & other equipment used to assist in breastfeeding -Must be computer literate. -Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner. -Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. -Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public. -Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team member. -Must be able to follow written and oral instructions. |
