The Education Specialist is an advanced practice role that involves responsibility for the assessment, planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of educational and clinical initiatives, with 24-hour accountability. Develops, teaches, coordinates and evaluates educational programs with full accountability. Collaborates with Clinical Nurse Manager to assess educational needs of staff, plan programs and provide continuous competency assessment of staff. Provides clinical, educational and administrative resource to all levels of nursing personnel. Develops and supports preceptors in their role, as appropriate. Provides mentorship to staff. Participates and promotes collegiality within the interdisciplinary health care team. Communicates effectively with others and acknowledges effects of behavior on others. Assumes preceptor responsibility as needed to facilitate role transition of new clinical staff members. Participates in the clinical practices and educational programs for health care professionals. Utilizes standards, policies and procedures as appropriate resources. Serves as program leader/ facilitator for assigned educational programs. Participates in continuous quality performance improvement processes within the Nursing Department/ Hospital Performance Improvement. Maintains records of educational programs. Supports the mission, vision, philosophy and goals of the Nursing Department and the Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens.
15. Maintains clinical expertise in area of specialization. 16. Participates in Nursing Research activities and utilizes same in clinical practice/ educational initiatives. Considers ethical issues in professional Nursing practice and adheres to code of ethics.
18. Chars and/ or participates in Department of Nursing and hospital committees. 19. Serves as a professional resource to other members of the interdisciplinary care team. 20. Attends and participates in conference and seminars. Promotes innovation and supports autonomous Nursing practice based on Nursing theory and Research.
