{"id":11312,"date":"2019-06-19T12:02:00","date_gmt":"2019-06-19T19:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nursemk.wpengine.com\/facilities-made-top-pediatric-hospitals\/"},"modified":"2022-03-02T14:35:46","modified_gmt":"2022-03-02T19:35:46","slug":"facilities-made-top-pediatric-hospitals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nurse.com\/solutions\/blog\/facilities-made-top-pediatric-hospitals","title":{"rendered":"Find out Which Facilities Made the Top Pediatric Hospitals List"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Boston Children\u2019s Hospital earns No. 1 ranking in U.S. News &amp; World Report\u2019s annual analysis of the nation\u2019s top pediatric hospitals.<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/health.usnews.com\/best-hospitals\/pediatric-rankings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">U.S. News &amp; World Report judged hospitals<\/a> in 10 different specialties in its 2019-2020 rankings, and Boston Children\u2019s placed first in five of those for top pediatric hospitals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cancer<\/li>\n<li>Nephrology<\/li>\n<li>Neurology and neurosurgery<\/li>\n<li>Orthopedics<\/li>\n<li>Urology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This was Boston Children&#8217;s sixth year in a row as a winner, offering an excellent opportunity to increase awareness of the hospital while boosting <a href=\"http:\/\/advertise.nurse.com\/blog\/make-employer-branding-part-of-your-recruitment-strategy\/\">its brand.<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFor our extraordinary team, this ranking is a badge of honor for the limitless dedication, imagination and compassion they bring to everything they do,\u201d said Kevin B. Churchwell, MD, the hospital\u2019s president and COO, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenshospital.org\/newsroom\/news-and-events\/2019\/june\/us-news-2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">news release<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s their unyielding commitment to finding answers to the toughest questions for patients and families that continues to make Boston Children\u2019s the best pediatric hospital in the country.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Boston Children\u2019s also ranked second overall in a pair on specialties (neonatology, diabetes and endocrinology) and third in another (pulmonology and lung surgery). The hospital was chosen fourth-best in gastroenterology and GI surgery, along with fifth in cardiology and heart surgery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a tribute to the (physicians), nurses, researchers and so many other staff whose exceptional work every day is improving the health and well-being of children from around the world and around the corner,\u201d Boston Children\u2019s CEO Sandra L. Fenwick said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/advertise.nurse.com\/contact-blog\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter 3327 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/advertise.nurse.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Nursecom_MediaKit_B2B_April2019_1000x250_V2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>How to get named among the top pediatric hospitals<\/h3>\n<p>To be nationally ranked in a specialty, according to U.S. News, a hospital \u201cmust excel in caring for the sickest, most medically complex patients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boston Children\u2019s was rated first or second in seven of the 10 specialties, and also ranked third in pulmonology and lung surgery, fourth in gastroenterology and GI surgery, and fifth in cardiology and heart surgery.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The 13<sup>th<\/sup> annual pediatric rankings recognized the nation\u2019s top 50 healthcare facilities. U.S. News prepared its rankings by studying clinical data from nearly 200 hospitals surveyed and reputation data from a survey sent to 15,000 physicians who specialize in pediatric care.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Children\u2019s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) ranked second overall in the U.S. News Honor Roll, which recognizes the top 10 nationally.<\/p>\n<p>CHOP was the nation\u2019s top pediatric hospital in both the diabetes and endocrinology specialty and gastroenterology and GI surgery, and it ranked second in three specialties:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Neurology and neurosurgery<\/li>\n<li>Pulmonology and lung surgery<\/li>\n<li>Urology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Philadelphia facility was third nationally in orthopedics and neonatology, while placing fourth in the nephrology rankings.<\/p>\n<p>Cincinnati Children\u2019s Hospital Medical Center and Texas Children\u2019s Hospital, Houston, tied for third in the national Honor Roll.<\/p>\n<p>Cincinnati Children&#8217;s two No. 3 rankings were in gastroenterology and GI surgery, and nephrology. It also placed No. 4 in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Neonatology<\/li>\n<li>Neurology and neurosurgery<\/li>\n<li>Orthopedics<\/li>\n<li>Pulmonology and lung surgery<\/li>\n<li>Urology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The highest ranking for Texas Children\u2019s was No. 1 in the pulmonology and lung surgery, and gastroenterology and GI surgery specialties. The facility also placed high in nephrology (No. 2), gastroenterology and GI surgery (No. 2), cancer (No. 3) and neurology and neurosurgery (No. 3).<\/p>\n<p>At No. 5 in the Honor Roll was Children\u2019s Hospital Los Angeles. The facility earned No. 4 rankings in two specialties \u2014 cardiology and heart surgery, and diabetes and endocrinology. In addition, the hospital earned a No. 5 ranking in orthopedics.<\/p>\n<h3>The remaining top pediatric hospitals in the Honor Roll included:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>No. 6:<\/strong> Children\u2019s National Medical Center, Washington, D.C.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No. 7:<\/strong> Nationwide Children\u2019s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio<\/li>\n<li><strong>No. 8:<\/strong> UPMC Children\u2019s Hospital of Pittsburgh<\/li>\n<li><strong>No. 9:<\/strong> Johns Hopkins Children\u2019s Center, Baltimore<\/li>\n<li><strong>No. 10:<\/strong> Seattle Children\u2019s Hospital<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other No. 1 specialty rankings were earned by Children\u2019s National Medical Center (neonatology).<\/p>\n<p>A total of 84 hospitals nationwide were recognized with a top-50 ranking in at least one specialty. <a
