Position Requirements: Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Professional Nursing (Associate Degree, Diploma or Baccalaureate Degree). Clinical experience and/or skills in the area of maternal-child nursing. Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Current and valid New York State registration authorizing practice as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) OR current and valid limited permit authorizing practice as a Graduate Nurse (GN)
Certifications required for assigned area of practice:
o IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant)
o BLS (all nurses)
Position Responsibilities: The Lactation Consultant (LC) is a member of the professional team providing care for breastfeeding families in normal and special situations. Working with a high degree of autonomy, the RN accepts responsibility for assigned patients as a case manager to plan, implement and evaluate care for breastfeeding patients as well as documentation, and data collection. The LC is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives and policies for the Department and the Hospital.
