Overview:

 

The Licensed Practical Nurse I (LPN I) carries out routine patient assignments, works in controlled patient care situations, performs establishes nursing care procedures, and engages in therapeutic, rehabilitative, and preventive activities, under the direction of a registered nurse (RN). The LPN is trained to perform multiple skill functions pertinent to their clinical area. This position provides care to patients ranging in age from infants to geriatrics. The LPN will perform all duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Mercy Hospital Ardmore.

 

Makes decisions based on standard practice, instructions, operating directives and established procedures. May be required with orientation to provide service and/or patient care to other areas of Mercy Hospital Ardmore. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Is a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

  • Licensure: Licensed to practice as an LPN in the state of Oklahoma.

  • Experience: May be a new graduate nurse; An LPN with Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

  • Other: Successful completion of the hospital approved medication test. Demonstrates competency by successful completion of orientation competency assessment and verification form and department specific orientation within the first three months of employment. Demonstrates professional conduct and development. Able to learn and react quickly. Competent to make certain independent decisions concerning the quality and accuracy of the procedures performed. The RN functions autonomously and is responsible for the direction of the health care team and overall plan of care for the patient. Must be able to engage in technical conversation involving discussion with physicians, nurses, patients, families/significant others and co-workers.

    Required Other: Following orientation, within a time frame determined by the Unit Manager and Unit CSC, the LPN I will be expected to attend the class and complete the requirements for the IV Certified LPN. Time frames will vary for each individual. . The IV Certified LPN I will receive a one-time certification pay following completion of all requirements and submission of form to HR by manager.

  • Preferred Certifications: ACLS is strongly encouraged for all LPN’s. Pediatric oriented LPN’s are strongly encouraged to obtain and maintain PALS &/or PEARS.
