Working in collaboration with the Hospital Epidemiologists and Manger of Quality Assurance and Safety, coordinates execution of all aspects of the inpatient and outpatient infection prevention control program at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (MHMH and all D-H ambulatory practice sites). This includes surveillance and reporting of healthcare-associated infections, development and regular revision of policies, recommendations and guidelines, orientation and educational programs, consultation services for D-H and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health (D-HH), epidemiological investigations and studies, and quality improvement activities. Demonstrates and utilizes a comprehensive understanding of the theory and principles of clinical infection prevention and control, remains informed on new evidence-based guidelines and major changes in the field, and provides consultation and guidance to D-H and D-HH leaders adopting these changes. All duties are performed in a manner that promotes collaborative work.

Key Responsibilities:

1 Assumes responsibility for clinical oversite of the infection prevention program, in collaboration with the hospital epidemiologists and manager of quality assurance and safety, assuring that infection prevention activities are directed in a manner to assure highest impact.

2 Serves as a mentor and resource to the infection prevention program staff.

3 Assumes oversight of orientation of new infection prevention program staff, in collaboration with the Manager of Quality Assurance and Safety.

4 Works collaboratively with public health authorities to assure coordinated services for the prevention and control of infection, and assists with investigation of reportable infections, as required.

5 Assumes oversight responsibility for developing, reviewing, and revising infection prevention policies and recommendations, in collaboration with other infection prevention staff and leaders, using available published resources to maintain evidence-supported policies. Works collaboratively with all clinical departments to incorporate appropriate infection prevention principles into local policies and procedures.

6 Coordinates, participates in, and consults in the development, design and implementation of infection prevention and control programs and activities and monitors their effectiveness throughout D-H, aligning and standardizing practices whenever feasible.

7 Coordinates and participates in development of the annual Infection Prevention and Control plan.

8 Collaborates with key D-H stakeholders, educators, and operational leaders to develop and deliver an essential infection prevention/control education and training in support of the infection control plan implementation.

9 Serves in a consultative role to help identify, recommend, and implement changes to improve infection prevention and control practices throughout the D-HH system and to act on opportunities to align and standardize practices.
0 Provides expertise to infection prevention program staff and assumes oversight and quality assurance of the state and national infection reporting requirements.
1 Collaborates with senior leaders and D-HH member organizations to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards for infection control.
2 Actively participates in continuing education programs to maintain and expand knowledge of professional discipline and related fields, including presenting at meetings. Participates in local, regional and national societies and organizations that promote continuing education and are aligned with Dartmouth-Hitchcock interests.
3 Delegates tasks and projects to infection prevention program staff, as appropriate, that further the mission of the infection prevention program and in alignment with the infection control plan and annual risk assessment.
4 Participates in or leads D-H committees when appropriate that focus on infection prevention related issues.
5 Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years of Infection Preventionist experience required.
Master s degree required.
Demonstrated ability to interface collaboratively and effectively with physicians, administrators, nurses, other staff and students, representatives of regulatory bodies, consultants, and patients.
Demonstrated excellence in written, oral, computer, and presentation skills with active and respectful listening skills desired.
Leadership and management experience preferred.

Required Licensure/Certification Skills:
Current Medical Technician/Medical Lab Technician/Medical Lab Scientist (MT/MLT/MLS) certifications required
Current Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required
