REGISTERED NURSE in Medical Step-Down Unit (MSDU)

POSITION & UNIT SUMMARY

The MSDU is a 12-bed ICU Step-Down Unit, designated for a broad spectrum of stabilized critically ill medical adult and geriatric patients with non-surgical, non-cardiac conditions:
Vented patients, sepsis, various infections, acute respiratory/pneumonia, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver failure cases, etc.

THE ADVOCATE NURSE:
  • Uses evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion and skilled dialogue, the registered nurse leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience.
  • Delivers and coordinates patient-centered care across the continuum to support the successful transition of patients to other healthcare delivery systems or their home communities.
  • Is responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the appropriate utilization of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation, in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Current Illinois RN license
  • Current CPR
  • Minimum 1 year of experience (Previous critical care nursing experience preferred)
  • Certification in your current area of specialty once meeting eligibility requirements
  • Good communication skills and computer skills
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to respond to patients in a timely manner and access all areas of the unit

ICU/CCU/Step-Down Certification Requirements:
  • Successfully completes ECG course and annual exam post hire.
  • Completes and maintains ACLS certification post hire.
