To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, .Preferred Qualifications: 3 or more years working as a Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist in a Healthcare Environment. A year or more experience taking call as a Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist. A year or more experience working in a high-stress environment, such as fixing failed medical equipment while being used in patient care. A year or more experience networking medical devices and troubleshooting network issues. Certification as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET), Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist (CLES), Net+ and/or A+. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. - Experience and Education. Associates degree in Biomedical Electronics Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology or Biomedical Engineering Technology or in a related technical field such as Electronic Technology or Information Technology AND two years of experience as a Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist, Biomedical Equipment Technician, Field Service Engineer, Medical Equipment Repairer, or Information Technology Specialist Or Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology or in a related field such as Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) or Information Technology. Or Completion of a military training program in biomedical equipment and two years of experience as a Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist or Biomedical Equipment Technician, Field Service Engineer, Medical Equipment Repairer or Information Technology Specialist. Preferred Experience: At least one year of experience at the GS-09 grade level that demonstrates the technical competencies described at that level. Certification as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (CBET) is highly desirable at this level but not required. Grade Determinations: At least one year of experience at the GS-09 grade level that demonstrates the technical competencies described at that level. References: VA Handbook 5005/95 Part II Appendix G49 Physical Requirements: The position can be physically demanding involving walking, sitting, bending, some standing, and long periods of intense concentration. Lifting of objects between 10 and 50 pounds is common, and on occasion lifting of heavier objects is necessary. Climbing on ladders and scaffolds is common place. There may be special requirements for agility or dexterity such as exceptional hand/eye coordination.
