To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2020. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: GS-06 You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in working providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Engage in proactive patrolling based on criminal trends in order to maintain law and order Provide protection of the employees, patients, and others who frequent facility Empathize, engage and communicate with individuals to ensure a positive outcome Following and executing regulations and procedures covering law and rules enforcement. Assess danger and threats, and take proper action. Physical Requirements: A character investigation may be conducted on applicants selected for employment. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR POLICE OFFICER POSITIONS: Applicants must possess a valid, unrestricted State driver's license, have a safe driving record, and demonstrate that he or she is medically qualified to operate the appropriate motor vehicle safely. VA Police Officers must be able to achieve and maintain mandatory firearm and weapons qualification/certification. New VA Police Officers are required to attend and pass an 10-week course at the VA Law Enforcement Training Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.
