Job Summary:

This position supervises the daily processes of the nursing care team operations under direction of department leadership, and ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, regulatory, and accreditation standards. The RN Supervisor assists managers and physicians in maintaining the highest degree of clinical/operational performance and customer satisfaction.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Oversees operations and supervises resources to ensure efficient and effective performance of services provided. Assists management in developing, administering, and monitoring the departmental budget to ensure cost-effective operations within authorized budget allocations.
Demonstrates a high degree of knowledge and understanding of the section being supervised. Oversees scheduling, preparation/recovery, and procedure performance of patients to ensure smooth daily operations and quality services. Actively maintains patient flow in the department to established targets.
Orients, supervises, and evaluates the performance of the nursing staff to ensure safe and effective operations. Conducts staff meetings to communicate information, discuss safety/quality issues, and monitor continued understanding and compliance with MWHC and departmental policies.
Assists with the development, revision, and enforcement of departmental policies, procedures, protocols, and standards to ensure quality care, efficiency, and procedural compliance. Promotes the use of best practice using evidence-based nursing/best practices throughout the department and in compliance with regulatory bodies.
Maintains clinical nursing competencies and is able to provide direct patient care to patients.
Initiates performance improvement activities for the section utilizing a LEAN/PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) approach to improvement.
Serves as a liaison between staff, physicians, other healthcare providers, and customers. Establishes effective work relationships and maintains effective communications with all customers. Evaluates and resolves customer satisfaction and quality/performance issues in a timely manner. Creates an environment that promotes customer service excellence.
Attends meetings and committees as necessary.
Additional Responsibilities for Radiation Oncology RN Supervisor
Performs Super-nurse duties in ARIA ensuring all tasks are completed.
Participates in management of charting, consults, patient education, and follow-up for stereotactic radiation patients.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required; BSN preferred.
Current licensure as a RN with the Virginia State Board of Nursing required.
Current BLS certification required.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Experience with computerized systems and programs, such as scheduling, payroll, email, and hospital information systems preferred.
Additional Qualifications for Radiation Oncology RN Supervisor
Minimum of three (3) years recent oncology nurse experience required.
Oncology certification preferred.
