Medication Administration Instructor Harrisburg-PT

The Part Time Medication Administration Instructor will primarily support the Medication Administration Train-the-Trainer Face to Face classes. This position is part of the Healthcare Training Program at Temple University Harrisburg. 

Under general supervision, this instructor will teach two to five classes per month and will serve as a back-up trainer to one other program trainer. Overall training needs are disclosed well in advance of the training dates.  The team manager, in cooperation with the trainers, finalizes the training schedule. This position requires flexibility as training dates and locations across the state vary from month to month. This instructor must be available for overnight travel around Pennsylvania including travel to locations that may not be accessible by public transportation. This trainer will initially incur travel expenses (meals, tolls, parking and lodging) which are reimbursable by Temple University funds according to per diem rates.

This instructor may also be asked to participate in TUH-based meetings, contribute to training and instruction materials development, or assist with technical assistance questions from administrator or trainer candidates filtered through the TUH Medication Administration course Helpdesk.

This instructor may be called upon to provide training or support for additional courses such as the 100 Hour Personal Care Home Administrator course and be asked to perform other duties as assigned. The total hours per month may vary. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Must be a Licensed Registered Nurse, Registered Pharmacist, Medical Doctor, Doctor of Osteopathy, or Physician Assistant with at least five (5) years of directly related experience.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have a reliable vehicle, valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, and up-to-date registration and insurance.
  • Demonstrated effective training experience.
  • Ability to assess and provide feedback to class participants.
  • Ability to travel to training sites that might not be accessible by public transportation throughout the state of Pennsylvania.
  • Ability to travel overnight and spend – if needed - multiple days at various locations in the state.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications, ability to gather data, to compile information, prepare reports, records maintenance and compile information in order to maintain updated training materials.
  • Skill in the use of various computer programs, including (but not limited to):  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email systems.
  • Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities and meeting assigned deadlines.
  • Knowledge of computerized information systems, ability to handle, track and monitor data.
  • Familiarity with internet communications applications such as Skype, Zoom, GoToMeeting, Outlook, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to be a professional representative of Temple University.
